Major Lippert was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2005 following graduation from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He attended flight training at NAS Whiting Field and NAS Meridian, and was designated a Naval Aviator in December 2007. Upon follow-on designation as an AV-8B Harrier pilot in March 2009, 1stLt Lippert reported to Marine Aircraft Group 13, where he was assigned to Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 311.
During his operational tour with VMA-311, 1stLt Lippert deployed aboard the USS Peleliu with HMM-165 (REIN) as part of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
In September of 2011, Captain Lippert reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, where he served as the Battalion Air Officer. 2012, he deployed to Kahn Neshin, Afghanistan. He additionally served as the Battalion’s Information Operations Officer.
Following his tour as Air Officer, Captain Lippert reported to VMA- 211 in Yuma. He graduated from the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course in 2013 and in July of 2014, deployed aboard the USS Makin Island with VMM-163 (REIN) as part of the 11th MEU, where he served as the assistant detachment officer-in-charge and flew in support of INHERENT RESOLVE and ENDURING FREEDOM.
Major Lippert graduated from the US Air Force Test Pilot School in June, 2016 and reported to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23), “The Salty Dogs” where he served as a test pilot and project officer in the F/A-18 and F-35. He conducted a wide range of developmental and experimental flight test, including first of class flight trials aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth. Major Lippert was additionally appointed as a studies project officer for implementation of automated collision avoidance technology in Marine Aviation.
Major Lippert reported to VMX-1 in January, 2019 where he currently serves as the Chief Operational Test Director and Chief Test Pilot.
Major Lippert has flown over 1700 hours in more than 40 different types of aircraft, and held qualifications in eight military fighters. He holds master degrees in Flight Test Engineering from Air University and Systems Engineering from the US Naval Postgraduate School. His personal awards include the Air Medal with Strike/Flight Numeral “2”, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star.
